Prepare Your Umbrella! BMKG Predicts Batam Region have the Potential to Rain until May 2021
The Hang Nadim Batam Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Department (BMKG) said, currently, Batam City is entering the rainy season.
"This is a normal cycle," said the Hang Nadim Station Coordinator for Data and Information, Suratman, on Tuesday (4/20/2021).
Suratman explained, climatologically for 30 years, at the end of April and May the potential for rain increases drastically compared to other months.
He continued, Batam has two peak rainy periods in a year, namely towards the middle of the year and the end of the year.
"Batam has two peak periods of rain. April and May, and November and December," he said.
Suratman said, the closer to May, the potential for rain and intensity will increase.
For waves in the Riau Islands region and around Batam waters, until the end of April it is fairly safe.
"However, people still have to be aware of sudden weather changes. When the weather changes from hot to rainy, it causes strong winds. This increases the potential for high waves," he appealed.
"Also beware of strong winds that accompanied by lightning," he said. (Tribunbatam.id/Alamudin Hamapu)
