Singapore Experiencing Recession, Mayor Said Batam Conditions Could Still Be Overcome

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - The second quarter of 2020, Singapore's economic growth contracted by 41.2%, after the previous quarter, the economic growth contraction reached 3.3 percent.

Economic growth which dropped to minus for two times in a row has caused the country of Singapore is now on the verge of recession.

The effect of this recession in the field of tourism is felt, especially in Batam City, Riau Islands

However, Mayor of Batam, Muhammad Rudi stated that, the economic impact that might arise from the effects of Singapore recession in Batam could be overcome.

"Singapore's government, he said, is the longest recession in one month. One month is a short time, so we assume we can overcome Batam," commented Rudi, when met at Great Mosque, Batam Center, Tuesday (07/21/2020).

The policy prepared by Batam Government to prevent the impact of recession in Lion Country, is to revive investment growth in Batam.

According to Rudi, Central Government has also stressed the importance of investment to grow the country's economy, especially in the midst of Covid-19 period and the shadow of Singapore recession.

"We have provided the convenience process, especially for business actors, for example such as ease of business requirements, licensing is facilitated.

So that money goes to the government, and we can roll it back to the community," Rudi answered.
