"Water Salute" and F-16 in the Air, Sign of Respect From the TNI AU to Vice President, Jusuf Kalla

TRIBUNBATAM.id - The Indonesian Air Force paid tribute to the Vice President, Jusuf Kalla, who would relinquish his position as number two in the Republic of Indonesia.

The tribute was given when Kalla took off from Adisutjipto Airport to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport after a work visit from Yogyakarta, Thursday (10/10/2019).

The Yogyakarta Air Base Commander Adi Sutjipto Yogyakarta, First Marshal Bob Henry Panggabean, conducted a Water Salute to release the Vice President Jusuf Kalla's departure for Jakarta.

When the Boeing Business Jet 2 airplane carrying the Vice President flew, two fire engines flanking the runway sprayed water diagonally to form an archway. 

The aircraft passed the gate made of water as a sign of respect. Not only that, when the BBJ 2 aircraft carrying the Vice President aired, two Indonesian fighter planes, the F-16 passed by and escorted as a sign of respect to the Vice President Kalla.

One F-16 pilot greeted Kalla who was in the cockpit of BBJ-2. He represented the Indonesian Air Force to thank Kalla's service to the country through inter-aircraft radio communication channels.

"We are proud to escort Indonesian flight 2. We thank you for your leadership during your time as Vice President. Hopefully, we will always be blessed with safety and health," said the pilot, as quoted from a video recording obtained by Kompas.com, Thursday (10/10/2019).

Kalla was also respond the thanks. 

"I thank you for your support and also of your devotion. Today I am proud to be escorted by you all. I am sure our country is protected by all of you here. Thank you for escorting today," said Kalla.

Upon arrival at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Air Base, the aircraft carrying the Vice President also received a Water Salute ceremony. Water salute ceremonies are usually held for the arrival of a new plane or first flight.

This ceremony is also often performed to mark the retirement of senior pilots. (*)
