Mount Anak Krakatau Erupts, Ash Reaches 1,500 Meters Height from the Summit

Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) erupted again. The height of the ash column reaches 1,500 meters from the summit. The eruption occurred today, Friday (4/22)

TRIBUNBATAM.id - Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) erupted again. The height of the ash column reaches 1,500 meters from the summit.

The eruption occurred today, Friday (4/22), at around 02.37 West Indonesia Time (WIB). 

Citing Magma Indonesia, the official application belonging to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the ash column was observed to be black with thick intensity towards the southwest.

There was no banging sound during the eruption. This eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 60 mm and a duration of 45 seconds.  

Currently, the status of Mount Anak Krakatau is at Level II or alert.

The activity of Mount Anak Krakatau has increased since early April 2022.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) noted that Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) erupted seven times throughout April 2022.

The lowest eruption was 700 meters from the peak. 

The first eruption occurred on April 15, 2022, at around 03.27 WIB.

The ash height at that time reached 1,000 meters from the summit, the ash column was white to black to the southwest, with a maximum amplitude of 50 mm and a duration of 5 minutes.
