TRIBUNBATAM.id -  Wednesday (9/25/2019) early morning, a brightly-lit celestial object crosses the sky in Central Java. The celestial body appears around Surakarta then moves to the north, Semarang to Demak.

Based on the viewers' eyes, the celestial body gave a booming sound as it moved towards Semarang-Demak. The celestial body looks quite long, which is about 10 seconds.

Lot of people think a meteor fell in Central Java. What is exactly the celestial body? Is that object was really the falling meteor

Amateur astronomer, Marufin Sudibyo said the most logical explanation for the phenomenon was the meteor. Especially bright or the super bright meteors.

The meteor, according to Marufin, appeared at dawn around 01.00 WIB. The meteor was very bright and greenish in color.

"Precisely a very bright meteor (fireball) or even a super-bright meteor (superfireball). The length of the groundtrack is around 100 km. It has been known that fireball/superfireball began to appear since the height of about 110 km above sea level (dpl)," he explained.

On his social media status, Marufin explained that with an appearance in the sky for about 10 seconds, so the speed was 150: 10-15 km/sec.

"This speed was far greater than the speed of the aircraft. It is also almost twice as fast as artificial satellites that are in charge of orbiting the Earth," he added.

How often does it occur?

How often do the brightter meteors occur? Marufin explained, statistically, the superbright meteors occur every day in a number of 10 to 50 events. But it is in a global scope.

What about the location of the superbright meteor? Marufin explained that this depends on the level of light or magnitude of the meteor itself.

"If it's as bright as the full Moon, statistically it occurs in one location every 200,000 hours of observation that correlates with 50 years. So a superbright meteor that is as bright as the full Moon will appear in one place in every a half century on average," he said. (*)
