BMKG: MITAG Tornadoes Triggers the 4-meter of Waves in Indonesian Waters

TRIBUNBATAM.id - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Department (BMKG) calls on the public to be aware of the potential for waves as high as 1.25 to 4 meters in Indonesian waters today, (02/10/2019).
It is estimated, the emergence of waves that triggered by the MITAG tornadoes with a pressure of 965 hPa in Chinese Waters.
Wind patterns in the northern part of Indonesia are generally from Southeast-Southwest with speeds of 4 to 15 knots, whereas in the southern regions of Indonesia from East-Southeast with speeds of 4 to 20 Knots.
The highest wind speeds are observed in Enggano Island Waters (Sumatra), southern Sunda Strait (selat), South Banten Waters to West Java, South Kalimantan Waters, southern Makassar Strait (Selat), South Sulawesi eastern waters, Teluk (bay) Bone south of the eastern Flores Sea, Yos Sudarso Waters until Merauke.
This condition resulted in an increase of wave height around the area.

BMKG also predicts waves as high as 1.25-2.5 meters in several regions in Indonesia. These waves are categorized as medium sized BMKG. These areas include:
• Sumatra: North Sabang waters, Sabang Banda Aceh waters, Aceh West waters, Simeulue Island waters to Kepulauan Mentawai, Coastal Waters of Bengkulu to West Lampung.
• Java: Southern Sunda Strait, West Indian Ocean Aceh to Nias, South West Java Waters to Sumba Island, Java Sea.
• Bali and Nusa Tenggara: Bali Strait - Lombok Strait - Southern Alas Strait, West Sumba Strait, Sawu Sea, South Savu - Rotte Waters, South Indian Ocean Bali to NTT.

• Sulawesi: South Karimata Strait, Kotabaru Waters, South Makassar Strait, Southern Bone Bay
• Maluku and Papua: Sea of Banda, Southern waters of the Kei Islands - Aru Islands, Southern waters of the Tanimbar Islands, Sea of Arafuru.
Meanwhile, in the high wave category, which is 2.5 to 4 meters, is located in most of the islands of Sumatra and West Java. These areas are the Enggano Island Waters, West Indian Ocean to Lampung, Java South Indian Ocean, South Banten Waters.

In addition, BMKG also appealed to all coastal communities, especially in the aspect of shipping to be careful. Therefore, also categorized ships or marine vehicles that are allowed to sail based on wind speed and waves.
