Kenduri Seni Melayu Received an Achievement on Riau Islands Tourism Award 2019

Together with KSM, two other tourism agendas that were awarded in the same category, Natuna Senoa Festival and Anambas Padang Melang Festival.

The award was received at Riau Islands Tourism 2019 Award Night at Pacific Palace Hotel Batam, Saturday (31/8).

"Thank you for the award. This makes us even more enthusiastic to keep maintaining Kenduri Seni Melayu as a cultural and tourism agenda in Batam City, "said the Head of Batam City Culture and Tourism Department, Ardiwinata.

KSM has been implemented since 19 years ago and this year will be the 20th agenda.

"KSM is routinely carried out, every year, there is never a break. Next year, our plan is to become the main event of Visit Batam 2020, "he explained.

Ardi explained that KSM is a cultural agenda.

But the packaging is appropriate for bringing foreign tourists, because there are many participants from allied countries.

"Last year we even got additional new participants from Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia. Beside from Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, " Ardi said.

Meanwhile, to bring tourists as spectators, Ardi claimed to have been promoting since long before the implementation.

And this year will be a little different from previous years.

Because the location will move and there are additional events and categories.

"This year is no longer at Dataran the Engku Putri,  but we are trying to move at Dataran Engku Hamidah, in front of Edukits Batam Center. And it will be combined with bazaar and there will be a cultural parade, " he said.

The implementation of KSM, said Ardi, is also in line with the mandate of Regional Regulation number 1 of 2018 regarding the Promotion of Malay Culture.

Through this cultural agenda, the government can display a variety of Malay segments.

Like oral literature, writing, dancing, and so on.

"This year we will also pack Malay song copyright contest. We feel that Malay songs are not yet productive. We need more Malay songs, and more popular ones. We will hold creative millennial children to enliven KSM this year, "he said. (*)
