TRIBUNBATAM.id - Juanda Airport Surabaya in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, will be the gateway for international arrivals to Indonesia.
The news was announced by the Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, on Tuesday (12/21/2021).
To note, this discourse was previously conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
Luhut said this plan was an effort to anticipate the surge in foreign travelers (PPLN).
He added, in addition to the plan to open the airport as an entry point for international arrivals, the government will also prepare a new quarantine place, so that PPLN's return remains conducive according to the protocol.
Not only that, Luhut said that Indonesian citizens (WNI) who returned from abroad after shopping were asked to quarantine at the hotel.
However, Wiku appealed to the public not to travel abroad unless there was an urgent need. Especially before Christmas and the 2022 new year (Nataru) and the presence of the Omicron variant virus.
Citing the covid19.go.id, a number of steps were taken by the government to suppress the spread of Omicron, including adding to the list of countries of origin that should be wary of entering Indonesia.
Furthermore, the government will also extend the quarantine period, if conditions are deemed to be deteriorating.
